Indonesian culinary varies depending on the area.
Rice is the main dish of mostly Indonesian and it is served with meat or
vegetables. In the eastern part of the country the main dish is sago. Spices
(mostly chili), coconut milk, fish and chicken meat are important ingredients
for Indonesian cooking.
Some Indonesian meals are popular not only in Indonesia
but also in foreign countries. Sate, gulai (lamb soup), curry, rawon
(meat soup), nasi goreng, rendang, gado-gado, meat ball, tahu,
tempe, etc. are some popular food. Even sambel uleg (traditional
chili sauce) has been exported to some European countries. A recent research (as
broadcasted on TVs in January 2013) has proved that nasi goreng is the
first most favorite food in the world. People call it “nasi goreng”, not
“fried rice” (in English translation). It means that the name nasi goreng
has been internationally known. Surprisingly, the second most wanted meal is rendang,
another food from Sumatra.
There are also light snacks like traditional cakes
sold in traditional market. Recently they are also available in modern market.
Those cakes are usually made of rice, glutinous rice, cassava, yam, flour,
sago, potato, etc.
Some interesting kinds of food are offered by the
street vendors using food carts. People can easily find them in towns and
cities. The number of the vendors commonly increases in the evening.

On
Saturday 12 January we went to the Botanic Gardens. We walked down and boarded
the bus.
After
we arrived at the gardens we walked down to the Education Centre. Grade eight
went to have a look around. First we went to the First Farm and Mrs. James read
us some of the information. Then we looked at all the lovely plants. After that
we went down to a little spot in the Botanic Gardens and had morning tea.
Next
we did sketching and then we met back at the Education Centre with Year Nine to
have lunch. Soon after it was time for us to go and make our terrarium while
Grade nine went to have their walk.
A
lady took us into a special room and introduced herself, and then she explained
what we were going to do. Next she took us into a pyramid terrarium. It was
most interesting. Later we went back and made our terrariums.
Soon
after we had finished we went back outside. Then we reboarded the bus and
returned to school.

Once upon a time,
there lived a kindhearted man and his wife. One morning , his wife found a poor
little sparrow. She took it gently and fed it. To show its gratitude, the
sparrow stayed with the couple and sang every morning.
Unfortunately, there was an ill-tempered old
woman who did not like the sparrow. She cut the sparrow’s tongue. The sparrow
was very sad and hurt, so the bird flew away to its previous nest.
Knowing that
their sparrow flew away, the kind man and the woman looked for their sparrow.
They walked a long way, crossed the river, and passed the wood.
The long and hard journey
brought them to the sparrow’s nest. The sparrow welcomed them and provided a
feast for them. Before they went home, the sparrow brought two baskets, one was
large and looked heavy and the other one was small and light. The sparrow asked
them to choose one. They chose the small one. And that was best choice. There
were many rolls of silk and piles of gold in it.
Being jealous,
the ill-tempered old woman did the same thing as the kind man and woman did.
